A new series of permanent rolling press with depictions of German castles and palaces replaces the roller-type brand series "Accident Prevention". The postage stamps of 10 and 30 Pfennig appearing as additional values in this series with the inscription Deutsche Bundespost are published at the same time and in the same motif as the inscription Deutsche Bundespost Berlin; two values have already been issued on January 13 and February 16, 1977. Picturesque is the castle Ludwigstein steeply above the Werratal. Landgrave Ludwig I of Hesse had it built in 1415 against Hanstein Castle and the eichsfeldische Ritterschaft under the protection of an army. In 1416 the castle was already habitable. There was a legend that the devil helped with the construction. The festivals were pledged several times and was abandoned in the 19th century. After many efforts, the »Friends of Ludwigstein Castle« acquired the complex in 1920 and built it as a memorial for the wild birds that fell in the First World War and as a youth castle, which today enjoys a special fame and is therefore often visited. Burg Ludwigstein is one of the latest German castle foundations. The small late gothic plant is well preserved. The defensive exterior and the courtyard with half-timbered buildings indicate the late emergence. The cultivation in the east was 1954, the north 1963. Next to the gate is the high round keep. Ludwigstein today houses the archive of the German Youth Movement and shows its symbol in the weathervane: the Wandervogel. (Extract from texts by the German Castle Association e.V. Braubach - Dr. W. Avenarius)
