The Bavarian Forest, located in the southeast of Germany, is one of the largest and most pristine forest areas in Central Europe; it is bordered to the northeast by the Bohemian Forest, to the south by the Danube and to the west by the river Regen. Over 60 mountains are more than 1,000 meters high and usually covered to the summits with forest. Together with the national park founded in 1970, in the area of Rachel and Lusen with an area of 130 square kilometers, the nature parks in the Bavarian Forest are the most beautiful forest areas in Central Europe. In between are attractive bogs, also called "felts", and bizarre rock formations.
