The Burghauser Burg is named after and outstanding landmark of the city Burghausen. With its length of 1,043 meters, it is the longest castle in Europe. It consists of six enclosed courtyards, which were secured by gates, ditches and drawbridges. Due to the altitude on a ridge on today's German-Austrian border river Salzach she once had great strategic importance. When the construction of the castle began, is not clear. It is clear, however, that the large-scale expansion is closely linked to the role of Burghausen as the seat of the Lower Bavarian dukes. On elements of the castle complex can be read off various epochs of the architectural and fortified building history.
