Supplementary values to the postage stamp continuous series »Industrie und Technik« introduced in 1975/76. The postage stamps appear at the same time and the same motif as the inscription "Deutsche Bundespost Berlin". Already in the thirties Herrmann Kemper, the "father of the electromagnetic suspension railway", made the first successful experiments. Since since then, with the problems of modern high-speed traffic, the interest in new solutions grew and significant technological advances, especially in the power electronics promising solutions could be expected, at the end of the 60s, developments in various countries were resumed and intensively pursued. The German system has meanwhile reached a leading position in the world and will be tested at speeds of up to 400 km / h from 1983 on a large-scale test facility in the Emsland. In the long term, market opportunities of the maglev train are seen in a superimposed European long-distance transport system, with which the traffic system in the speed range between railway and aircraft is meaningfully supplemented. The advantages of the maglev train lie above all in their environmental friendliness, their low and oil-independent energy requirements, their efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
