The reel stamps appear simultaneously and identically with the inscription "Deutsche Bundespost Berlin". Herrenhausen preserves remarkable outbuildings of the former castle as well as one of the most magnificent parks of the Baroque. Duke George of Calenberg raised 1637 Hannover to the residence. The close location of the local castle caused him to acquire land in Höringhausen since 1638. Duke Christian Ludwig built a Vorwerk, Duke Georg Wilhelm a small pleasure palace. Duke Johann Friedrich had 1665-68 lock Lauenstadt, a simple half-timbered building, move to Höringhausen, which he renamed "Herrenhausen" and raised to summer residence. The castle was extended and rebuilt: 1676 by Hieronymo Sartorio, 1704-08 by Giacomo Quirini and 1820/21 by Georg Ludwig Friedrich Laves in classicist style. The three-winged building was destroyed in 1943. The gallery building has been preserved, begun in 1694 as an orangery, completed in 1699 as a ballroom with living quarters. In the western part lived 1696-1714 the Elector's widow Sophie. The elongated building has an accentuated central portal, framed by pilasters and crowned with gables. The central hall with music galleries displays frescoes by Tommaso Giusti and ribbon ornaments in stucco. In Herrenhausen's heyday 1650-1714, Italian, French, Dutch and German cultures met here.
