World Festival of Youth and Students, Pyongyang 1989 On the occasion of the Pentecost meeting of the Free German Youth in Berlin 1989 and the XIII. World Festival of Youth and Students in Pyongyang In 1989, the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications of the German Democratic Republic issued two multicolored special postage stamps of one with surcharge in combination with intermediate field. The sums collected will be made available to the FDJ Whitsun meeting. Special cancellation from 9 May to 8 July 1989 As part of and highlight in the "FDJ squad DDR 40", the Free German Youth performs the "Pentecost Meeting of the FDJ" from 12 to 15 May 1989 in the capital of the GDR, Berlin , It will be a powerful manifestation of youth for peace and socialism, as a showcase performance of the youth association in preparation for the 40th anniversary of the GDR and designed as a celebration of zest for life and have a great national and international impact. The big youth meetings have a long and good tradition in the history of the FDJ and the German Democratic Republic. Starting from the first meeting in Germany in May 1950 to the National Youth Festival of the GDR in June 1984 - these mass meetings in politically active times were always a powerful commitment of the youth of the GDR to the policies of the Socialist Unity Party of Germany and its home state, against the policies of imperialism. At the same time, these communal experiences of determination and zest for life gave tens of thousands of young people vital impulses for their future lives. Thus, the 1989 Whitsun gathering will once again document the close ties between the youth of the GDR and the party of the working class and its socialist homeland, and shape the current FDJ generation. All members of the youth association were called to fight for a mandate to attend the Pentecost meeting and help shape the youth meeting program. This call has sparked a wide response in the Free German Youth. FDJers, youth collectives, cultural ensembles and sports associations have taken up the mandate fight and submitted their proposals for the program. Pentecost In 1989, the city center of socialist Berlin will become a center of youth. From Linden to Anton-Saefkow-Platz many action and adventure areas are created. The Pentecost meeting opens with a powerful manifestation on the Marx-Engels-Platz. In addition to many cultural and sporting events, meetings, encounters and honors, all participants will unite on Whitsunday for a fight demonstration on the Karl-Marx-Allee. The "Pentecost Meeting of the FDJ" will end with a festive concert and a big fireworks display in the city center. At the beginning of July 1989, the "XIII World Youth and Student World Festival" will be held in Pyongyang. Together with young communists, social democrats, liberals, Christians and representatives of different ideologies from over 100 countries, the envoys of the youth of the GDR will support anti-imperialist solidarity, peace and friendship. The World Festival of Youth and Students has become in its 41-year history the largest and widest meeting of the youth of all continents. The FDJ, which hosted the youth of the world twice, is actively involved in this festival movement. The ideas of friendship and anti-imperialist solidarity are deeply rooted in the thinking and actions of the youth of the GDR. The best representatives of the GDR youth, who have achieved special achievements in the "FDJ squad DDR 40", will receive the mandate to participate in the World Festival. With the "Pentecost Meeting of the FDJ" it will once again become clear that the actions of the GDR youth for the strengthening and protection of their socialist homeland also make a significant contribution to anti-imperialist solidarity, peace and friendship.
