The 1971 Olympic Games series is the fourth of a total of five additional stamp series published on the occasion of the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich. Since the 1972 Winter Olympics take place in Sapporo, Japan, Deutsche Post has had the stamps designed by a Japanese artist. As in previous years, the proceeds will be donated to the Foundation for the Promotion of the 1972 Olympic Games, which will be donated in full to Stiftung Deutsche Sporthilfe. Ski jumping, figure skating, downhill skiing and ice hockey are the four disciplines of the Winter Olympics presented on the 1971 Olympics. The block marks are distinguished by the missing year at the bottom right of the individual stamps.
