With a view to the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich appear until 1972 annually special postage stamp series with surcharges, which refer to the Olympic Games and at the same time provide a financial contribution from the surcharges. The local and temporal reason is recognizable from the writing line at the upper edge of the Olympia stamps 1969. It is »Munich 1972«. The factual connection is indicated by the Olympic rings. The proceeds will be donated to the Foundation for the Promotion of the Olympic Games in Munich in 1972, in which representatives of the sport and the federal ministries involved are represented in equal representation. The management lies with the Federal Ministry of the Interior, Bonn, Rheindorfer road 198. The foundation is to help in the preparation and execution of the Olympic Games Munich 1972 everywhere, where other means can not be provided insufficiently or where unforeseeable need arises. Its main purpose is to promote the ideological, cultural and people-sharing ideas of the Olympic Games. Part of the private donations, which amount to millions of pfennig amounts, should also be used to promote top athletes. In the inaugural meeting, which took place on 17 May 1967 in the Federal Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications, there was unanimity that in the use of funds, the donation character must be in the foreground, because the mass of buyers certainly would not be ready for the To donate subway construction. This time personalities will not be shown as practicing athletes or organizers of sporting events, but sites dedicated to the pursuit of sporting disciplines. There are the cinder track, the hockey field, the shooting gallery and the sea as the venue for sailing competitions. These are not reproductions of certain places, but symbolically stylized depictions of the categories.
