On September 23, 1993, the city of Sydney (Australia) was awarded the direction of the Olympic Games in 2000. The Games will be held from September 15 to October 1. After 1956 (Melbourne), these games are the second on the fifth continent. 28 sports with a total of 300 competitions, including 168 competitions for men, 120 competitions for women and 12 mixed competitions, are on the program. Some 10,400 athletes are expected to participate by the current 199 National Olympic Committees in the world. Two sports - taekwondo and triathlon - are Olympic for the first time in these games. The competition sites include the stadium on Homebush Bay, which has 110,000 seats during the Olympic Games. After the games, it will be rebuilt and used for cultural and sporting events. In addition to the Olympic stadiums at Homebush Bay, many more competitions will be held in the Darling Harbor waterfront. There, the facilities of the conference and exhibition center offer the best prerequisites. Other sports, such as riding competitions, mountain bike competitions, rowing and canoeing, are held at courses (Horsley Park, Penrith Lake) around Sydney.
