In 1996, the jubilee "100 years of modern Olympic Games" with the 26th Olympic Games is solemnly celebrated. These will take place from July 19 to August 4, 1996 in Atlanta, Georgia, USA. One of the greatest ideas of the Occident, which fascinates people in ancient times as well as in our own days, is the reference of Post and Telekom Austria with the publication of a special stamp. There are a total of 271 competitions in 26 sports on the program. There are 163 competitions for men, 97 for women and 11 for men and women. A record number of nearly 200 nations will send more than 10,000 participants. Also, some new sports come to Atlanta for Olympic honors: beach volleyball, softball (women) and football (women). Most of the competitions take place within the "Olympic ring" in Atlanta itself. The Olympic Village is set up on the site of the famous "Georgia Tech University". Incidentally, the organizing committee "ACOG" is raising the $ 1.61 billion total budget required from private sources.
