In 1976, Innsbruck, the capital of the Austrian province of Tyrol, was the venue of the Winter Olympics for the second time. From February 4 to 15, 1976, athletes from all over the world met for the XII. Olympic winter games for sports competition. The 12-day sports and social program started with an opening ceremony in front of a magnificent mountain backdrop in the Bergisel-Sprung-Stadion. Millions of people in all parts of the world were able to follow the competitions via satellite and television. The Austrian Post devoted a total of 8 special postage stamps in 2 editions to the grandiose idea of "Olympia" and the achievements of the athletes in the peacemaking unifying competition (4 brands each in March and 4 brands in November 1975). The brand image of the value 70g + 30g shows pair skaters (ice skating).
