The Hochmoor Heidenreichstein is located in the north of Austria, in the humid and cool climate of the Waldviertel, which is located at approx. 500 m above sea level. It is one of the finest examples of the rare forest pine bogs, located on the edge of a vast fish pond, surrounded by forest. The bog consists of a fen (it is fed by groundwater) in the surrounding area of the pond and a rain bog in the more distant from the pond water section together. In 1985, the area was declared a nature reserve and since 1989 it also has the status of a nature park.
