Even in Celtic-Roman times, the Vellach Valley was valued as a transit and trade route. At Eisenkappel, first mentioned in 1050, the Obir stalactite caves are located, in whose catchment area lead and zinc mining has been practiced since 1720. The beauty of this geological feature lies in the three natural caves "Lange Grotte" (260 m), "Wartburg Cave" (700 m) and "Kleine Grotte" (130 m). Hubert Trimmel were scientifically documented. Due to the restless activity of the association "Obir-Limestone Caves", this natural spectacle was made accessible to the public in April 1991. Visitors can enjoy and experience not only the caves themselves and the mine, but also the beautiful view of the Jauntal.
