Ferlach, the capital of the Carinthian Rosental, lies in the midst of pine forests, directly at the foothills of the Karawanken. The first written mention of Ferlach dates back to 1246. At that time made Hertnid of Pettau and Erchenger von Hohenwang as heir to Swikers of Hollenburg the monastery Viktring various donations, including "Vörelach" (Ferlach). The natural beauty rich environment offers many recreational opportunities. Special attractions are the romantic Tscheppaschlucht, the Tschaukofall and the Bodental with the "Märchenwiese". The name Tscheppaschlucht comes from the "Tscheppa", a small mountain cone at the top of the gorge. It was already accessible in the 19th century, but was only in 1920, the year of the Carinthian referendum, released for tourism. The famous Tschaukofall is located amidst a beautiful natural landscape near the "Devil's Bridge" on the road over the Loiblpass. He is fed from the Bodenbach, which flows from the Bodental to Loiblbach. The waterfall itself and its surroundings have been declared a natural monument. He bears his name after his discoverer and explorer, dr. Peter Tschauko, who was born on October 30, 1852 in the Loibltal.
