The history of the production of motorized two-wheelers in the Viennese engine factory Engler, Wolmersdorfer and Co. began in 1924 with a 123 ccm auxiliary bicycle engine, which was designated with the name Delta. Soon after, 170cc two-stroke engines were processed in-house, and in 1925, a highly successful Delta Gnom model with a 250 cc engine was launched, dating back to the 1930s. Larger-displacement engines such as the top model 500 and a luxury model of 1,000 cubic centimeters followed, but as a result of the economic crisis, sales soon dropped again. Nevertheless, after Puch, DSH and Titan Delta Gnom was once considered the fourth largest Austrian motorcycle brand. During the Second World War, the production was discontinued, after which the company produced in addition to machine parts again bicycles and especially mopeds and light motorcycles; The design of the Delta Gnom followed the modern Italian style of the fifties. At the beginning of the sixties the production finally had to be stopped, because the already small quantities were decreasing and the competition from Germany and abroad had become too strong. The motive of the new special stamp shows a Delta Gnom light motorcycle from the year 1953, equipped with a single cylinder two-stroke engine of the company Fichtel & x; Sachs with 123 cubic centimeters, a power of 5.8 hp at 5,500 revolutions, a telescopic fork and a so-called "Jurisch rear suspension".
