Stift Vorau is the only remaining Augustinian chapel in Styria. Situated on a broad hill between the Wechsel massif in the north and the Masenberg in the south, the abbey, whose construction began in 1163, is now in the baroque splendor of the 17th and 18th centuries. Above all, the sumptuously equipped collegiate church, the sacristy with the decoration designed by the abbey painter Johann Cyriak Hackhofer and the Abbey Library, which contains invaluable treasures, make the Abbey one of the most attractive sights in Austria.
