Erwin Bohatsch was born in Mürzzuschlag (Styria) in 1951 and studied from 1971 to 1976 at the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts, where he teaches today. Already in the seventies, he started his artistic career, in the 1980s, he drew attention to himself, while he worked in the vicious circle of the "New Wild", but still developed a very unique position. Bohatsch's works are created by layering layers of paint - ie with translucent colors. Part of the underlying shimmer through, partly created veil, often even looks out the screen, often the center of the image is kept open. His tracks, which are often juxtaposed with each other, also appear as if they were an open ensemble, even if they are individual works. Mesh and grid structures are just as typical of Bohatsch as his gestural-expressive brush stroke. The artist oscillates between objectivity and abstraction, between color and non-color, between line and surface. Numerous exhibitions in major museums and galleries as well as the awarding of several prestigious awards make Bohatsch a well-known artist in Austria. The untitled work shown on this stamp comes from a group of recent small paper works; it was made on paper with acrylic, oil and graphite.
