After Peter Kogler's "Ants" branded block last year, the interesting series "Contemporary Art" is now continuing in a very sophisticated manner with the Austrian concept artist Franz Graf and his work "EVA". Franz Graf, born in Tulln in 1954, studied at the University of Vienna for applied art with Oswald Oberhuber; From 1997 to 2006 he himself had a visiting professorship at the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts. Franz Graf, a member of the Association of Visual Artists of the Vienna Secession, has been awarded numerous prestigious awards, including the Prize of the City of Vienna for Visual Arts, the Lower Austrian Culture Prize and the Austrian Cultural Award for Fine Arts. As an extremely versatile artist, Franz Graf does not attach himself to any artistic medium. In his drawings, objects, installations, photographs, works in public space, conceptual paintings as well as in music, his ideas find a variety of forms of expression, often breaking the boundaries between work and space in a narrative way. By integrating existing realities, Graf creates an artistic universe that he combines with subtle drawings, experimental photos, monochrome surfaces, and somber apocalyptic installations. Abstract geometric symbols communicate with organic structures; He contrasts elegantly set letters with atmospherically dense, delicate drawings. The terms in his works never reveal their content, on the contrary, they are free chains of associations or poetic reflections that play in a virtuoso manner with the observer and his interpretation. With his system of the free connection of different elements, the links and overlaps, Franz Graf composes poetic spaces; Figuration and ornamentation are used to create an ambivalent, but at the same time exploratory, scenario in various intermediate tones - coincidence and regularity, order and order meet, seemingly surprised, always on top of each other. One thing is certain: ambiguous and multi-layered at the same time opens up the work of Franz Grafnie at a glance, the archaic unevenness of the craft leaves much open.Unfinished, but boundless and highly auspicious: attributes of the transfer to art. Franz Graf's works are an invitation that is to follow everyone's decision.
