Born the son of a country doctor on 29 November 1930 in Annaberg, at the foot of the Dachstein (Salzburg), Gottfried Kumpf was close to nature from childhood and connected it. When the artist, who had been a freelance artist since 1956, settled in Breitenbrunn on Lake Neusiedl, a painter and a landscape had come together that sounded like elements. Gottfried Kumpf's oeuvre ranges from oil paintings, lithographs, etchings, watercolors, book illustrations to tapestries and sculptures. His reputation has long since transcended the Austrian borders, his work is known and appreciated worldwide as an important contribution of modern art. As part of the "Modern Art" series, Gottfried Kumpf has created a design which, under the title "Evening Sun over Burgenland", aims to convey all that he otherwise can only convey to a narrower circle of art lovers by way of a small graphic work stamp. It is a watercolor with motifs from the northern Burgenland, which also integrates the built in the second half of the 17th century tower Breitenbrunns. A symbol of his place of work, his artistic home, so to speak. Between the vines the "Kumpf Manderl" inevitably sits as an amiable symbol, which could also be found in the special stamp that Kumpf created for the first day of this brand.
