On June 1, 2000, the time had come: The EXPO 2000 World Expo was opened on the extended site of Deutsche Messe AG in Hanover. Until October 31, 2000, more than 190 nations and many international organizations offered a view into the third millennium under the motto "Man - Nature - Technology". In the theme park, the heart of the EXPO 2000, presented a unique future show. Here, millions of visitors were expected - up to 50,000 children and adolescents were expected each day - answers to questions such as "where is gene research heading?", "What future do people born today have?", "What will our cities look like ours Jobs? "," Will there be enough food left on earth? "And" What will happen to our environment? "A walk around the world in the pavilions of nations and organizations included Arabian bazaars, Finnish birch forests, multimedia gardens, sea caves , Dune landscapes or Far Eastern kitchens. No less fascinating were the worldwide projects, for example in favor of the street children in Haiti, for the drinking water production in Chile or for the German development of an artificial ear up to rescue concepts for Uganda's mountain gorillas. The sensational cultural program with its events from rock and pop, classical music, theater, dance, sports and art, caused a stir worldwide. An example: over a total of more than 10,000 square meters, a fun sports hall was built. They offered skateboarding, inline skating, BMX, trial bike, mountain biking, streetball, street soccer, snakeboarding, beach volleyball and free climbing. The world's best scene athletes and show teams presented their skills. Of course, the visitors also had the opportunity to try out individual sports under expert guidance. In addition, under the motto »A World Emerged«, the first World Cup for Young Environmental Researchers was held at EXPO. For this purpose, young people from around 100 countries qualified in national preliminary decisions for participation. An international youth camp directly at the World Exhibition Center offered particularly cheap accommodation and at the same time a meeting place for young people from all over the world. The stamp series »For the Youth« is published with surcharges in favor of the Deutsche Jugendmarke e.V. Foundation. The foundation funds measures for the well-being of young people through the proceeds of the contract. A small part of the knock-on revenues this year went to EXPO 2000 Hannover GmbH for the financial support of its comprehensive children and youth program. This year's youth series includes six special stamps under the motto »EXPO 2000 - Meeting place for the youth of the world«. The motives selected for this are taken from an international competition. On the one hand, it draws attention to the international major event, which is also being attended by children and young people, and, on the other hand, draws attention to the diverse worldwide projects that are dedicated to this group of people. The circle of graphic artists who designed the stamps is correspondingly global.
