The special postage stamp "Red Sand" appears in the series "Lighthouses". She draws attention to the diversity of German lighthouses and introduces them in a relaxed sequence. The lighthouse "Roter Sand" in front of the mouth of the Weser into the North Sea was completed in 1885. He is considered the most technically elaborate lighthouse in Germany. "Red sand" stands on the border to the open sea, in the more than seven meters deep water. The foundation is up to 24 meters below sea level. The total height is 52.5 meters. The light source was first a kerosene lamp and from 1945 a propane gas lamp. In 1964, the lighthouse "Alte Weser", a few kilometers away, was put into operation. Because of a change in the fairway, he took over the function of "Red Sand".
