The special postage stamp »Greifswalder Oie« appears in the series »Lighthouses«. She draws attention to the diversity of German lighthouses and introduces them in a relaxed sequence. The "Greifswalder Oie" lighthouse is located on the island of the same name at the junction of the Greifswalder Bodden and the open sea area of the Baltic Sea. The octagonal tower was officially commissioned after three years of construction on 1 October 1855. First, the light source was operated with rapeseed oil, from about 1885 put kerosene lamps and 1939, the lighthouse was switched to electrical operation. Today's beacon can be seen for more than 48 kilometers.
