Lighthouse, Guidance and Molige Feuer on the coasts of the GDR (1975 edition) The Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications of the German Democratic Republic publishes five multicolored special postage stamps depicting lighthouse, flagship and mole fire along the coast of the GDR. The stamps also show excerpts from the map of the Seehydrographischen service of the GDR with the respective locations. Luminous, guiding and mole fires on the coast of the GDR The first beacons were in Northern Europe since about the 13th century. After 600 years of unsystematic firing of the coasts, it was not until the beginning of the 19th century, with the development of technology, that the organized security of navigation through beacons began. From 1848 to the First World War, most of Germany's most important coastal points developed at almost regular intervals, most of the most striking landmarks - the lighthouses. The extension and perfection of the beacon system - interrupted by the Second World War - was continued until today. In particular, the islands off the GDR formed focal points for the construction of beacons, in accordance with territorial and hydrographic conditions. In order to take more account of securing strengthened Baltic Sea shipping in the future, the tendency is generally for Baltic States today to automate the lighthouses. New buildings are already partially built in the sea. This applies primarily to traffic separation areas. Despite these new important security measures, the lighthouses on the mainland and especially on the islands off the GDR coast will not lose their importance. With reference to this importance of traffic safety for international shipping, a second special postage stamp set will be issued. This publication is the continuation of the first five motifs of the main representatives of the permanent seafaring on the coast of the GDR from May 1974. 35-pfennig value.
