Kufstein's landscape begins on a sandbank in the Inn and ends 2300 meters high on the ridge of the Kaisergebirge. This place is mentioned already 788 in a goods list of the archbishop of Salzburg as "Caofstein". Politically, the area long belonged to the Duchy of Bavaria, more precisely to the Gau Unterinntal, which extended from the Ziller estuary to Rosenheim. The Bavarian dukes divided him into several administrative districts, from which the three regional courts Kufstein, Kitzbühel and Rattenberg emerged. During the Bavarian rule Kufstein developed into a militarily very important settlement with castle and Inn bridge. 1393 awarded Duke Stefan III. Kufstein the title city, provided it with its own jurisdiction and secured all the rights of other Upper Bavarian cities. The fortress Kufstein, which can also be seen on the brand image, gives even today impressive evidence of the turbulent beginnings of Kufstein, which in its history was also repeatedly involved in military conflicts. Above all, industry and tourism are today the economic basis of the city.
