In 1899, the Lindau section of the German Alpine Club (then the German and Austrian Alpine Club) built one of the earliest lodges in the Alps of Vorarlberg. As a location she chose the Rätikon group in the Montafon, which is conveniently reachable from Lake Constance, and here the Gauertal. The Montafon has a number of remarkable side valleys. One of these side valleys, the Gauertal, where the Lindauer hut stands, is closed by mighty mountain formations, such as the Drei towers, the Sulzfluh and the Drusenfluh, against the neighboring Grisons. The Lindauer Hütte is most conveniently reachable from Tschaggungs-Latschau. It lies on the Rätikon-Höhenweg and offers two popular crossings to the Douglashütte am Lüner See as well as beautiful transitions into the Relltal and the Hueterhütte to Golm. From here you can also get to Switzerland via the Drusentor. West of the Lindauer hut an alpine garden was created, in which beside native plants also those from other high mountains are to be seen.
