The castle ruins of Aggstein in Lower Austria, which can be seen on this brand image, is one of the most important fortifications in Austria due to its historical significance and the size of the site. Due to its unique location with magnificent views over the Danube valley, it is also considered one of the most beautiful. Woven by popular myths, it became the epitome of a medieval knight's castle and a popular hiking destination. In the midst of the romantic Wachau, in the municipality of Aggsbach-Dorf, rise on a steep spur of the table wall, 300 meters above the southern bank of the Danube, the stately walls of the huge rock castle. From the height of the forest mountains greets the striking silhouette from afar the Danube driver. The castle was founded at the beginning of the 12th century. Their name derives from a small brook (Ache) ago. The elongated twin building adapts perfectly to the terrain. The castle is particularly characterized by the fact that both sides of the 150-meter-long castle square is bounded by about 20 meters high rock. The rock nearer to the entrance was used to defend the castle if enemies, which never happened, pass through the gate.
