The Almsee, which this brand shows, is located on the northern edge of the Dead Mountains at an altitude of 589 meters in the Upper Austrian Salzkammergut. Ever since alpinism, and thus tourism, conquered the more remote lakes and valleys of the Salzkammergut, the wild and romantic landscape of the Almsee has also attracted tourists. The Almsee became the starting point of many magnificent mountain tours. A series of alpine refuge, and well-marked trails now open up the glorious world of the Dead Mountains to mountaineers. At the Almsee itself, the "Seehaus" owned by the Kremsmünster Abbey and the "Deutsche Haus" offer accommodation, and the wide forests around the lake invite you for beautiful walks. Between Almsee and Grünau, a magnificent game park has been created, some of which are already rare alpine animals. The lake area covers 0.89 km², the length 2.4 km and its largest width 850 m. The largest depth of the Almsee is at a short point 9 m, but for the most part it is less than 4 m deep. The bottom of the lake is almost entirely covered by a dense cushion of algae and aquatic plants that give the lake those gorgeous green hues that stand out from the dark green of the woods, the light gray to the white of the limestone mountains and the lush blue of the sky. The Almsee and its surroundings have therefore rightly been declared a nature conservation area.
