One of Europe's most peculiar and interesting landscapes lies around 50 kilometers southeast of Vienna. This is Lake Neusiedler See, which is regarded by many as a representative of Burgenland and can be seen on the brand image. Due to its characteristics, such as changing water flow, salinity, shallowness and the surrounding reed forests, it is considered a typical steppe lake. The lake is located mostly in Burgenland, the easternmost province of Austria. The smaller, largely bleak southern part of about 80 square kilometers belongs to Hungary. One of the characteristics of the metropolitan area Lake Neusiedl is the so-called Seewinkel, which adjoins the eastern border on the eastern shore. A good part of its fame is due to the bird life of Lake Neusiedler, which is more than 280 species from this area. As a mosaic of the peculiarities of nature, the Neusiedler Lake area deserves special protection.
