The special postage stamp series »Land parliaments in Germany« continues the series of contemporary topics. With a view to the 50th anniversary, the public should be made more aware of the young and recent history and the federal structure of the Federal Republic of Germany. The Free Hanseatic City of Bremen is the smallest federal state and consists of the two cities of Bremen and Bremerhaven. Seat of the parliament is the house of the citizenship at the Bremen market place. The House of Citizenship was handed over to its purpose in 1966. The stock exchange building, in which the citizens had met until the dissolution by the National Socialists, had been destroyed in the Second World War. It was decided to build a new building in a modern shape based on a design by the architect Wassili Luckhardt. The external appearance, the folding roof, the glass facade and the structured bronze reliefs bear witness to consistent modernity. The interior also shows a clear and functional structure, for example through the spectator and journalist squares integrated into the plenary hall and a public library. The House of Citizenship was listed as a historical monument in 1992. As a modern monument, it now complements the Bremen market square.
