The special postage stamp series »Land parliaments in Germany« continues the series of contemporary topics. With a view to the 50th anniversary, the public should be made more aware of the young and recent history and the federal structure of the Federal Republic of Germany. The Hessian state parliament is the legislative body of the country Hessen; its 110 MPs represent more than six million inhabitants. The seat of the parliament is designed as a winter palace former city palace in Wiesbaden, built 1837-1842 by Duke Wilhelm von Nassau and his son Adolf. After the annexation of Nassau by Prussia in 1866, the castle was the residence of the Prussian kings and German emperors, later the seat of the workers 'and soldiers' council, commanding the army of occupation and seat of a general command of the German air force. In 1945, the Stadtschloss became the seat of the Hesse Landtag, which met for the first time in December 1946. At the beginning of the sixties, a modern boardroom was added to the back of the castle.
