The reason for the publication of this brand is the "International Police Exhibition 1956", which takes place from 1 to 23 September on the grounds of the Gruga in Essen. The invited artists were given the task of clearly expressing the international significance and cooperation of the police. Two designs by Hermann Bentele and the graphic artists Sigrid and Hans Lämmle, three each by Uli Huber and Herbert Kern, by Walter Leonhard and by the graphic artists Hans Michel and Günther Kieser, have each received five designs. The versatility of the police has yielded many different solutions. In their subject matter, they are often defined too much in one area, which does not do justice to the comprehensive task. Other proposals work with too general symbols, which could lead to completely different thought associations than the intended ones. The design of the graphic artists Hans Michel and Günther Kieser, for which the Art Council has decided, represents the clearest content in terms of content and comprehensively captures the worldwide connections of the police with its white hand covered by the world map. Formally, the brand is a good example of typical stamp graphics due to the concise factual version and the overprinting of the hand, the world map and the form grid.
