International Congress for Horse Breeding of the Socialist States 1974 Berlin, Capital of the GDR In the period from August 19 to September 4, 1974, the 25th International Congress for the Breeding of the Breed of the Socialist States takes place in the German Democratic Republic and the associated thoroughbred meeting. The aim of the International Congress of Horse Breeding is to constantly promote and intensify the friendship and cooperation of the socialist states in the field of horse breeding and horse racing. Particular concern is the comprehensive application of scientific and technical progress and the joint performance of performance tests, in order to achieve through this way, a faster performance increase in the horse breeding of the socialist states. The cooperation between the socialist states in the Congress is constantly being developed in accordance with the principle of full equality and mutual benefit, and thus directly fulfills the tasks of horse breeding in building socialism in our countries. These tasks are in the cultural-sports area, the horse offers a variety of opportunities for recreation and upgrading and the interesting and sophisticated leisure activities for the working people in the form of canter and harness racing, Pflerdleistungsungsschauen as well as in the context of riding and touring tourism. 35-pfennig value: Thoroughbred The breed of Thoroughbred in the GDR is of special importance for the breeding of noble warmblood horses. Breeding places are the well-known national studs Graditz, circle Torgau; Lehn, Bautzen County; Görlsdorf, Kreis Angermünde; Boxberg, Gotha and Neustadt / Dosse, Kyritz. At the racecourses Hoppegarten, Leipzig, Halle, Dresden, Magdeburg and Gotha the horses of this stud are subjected to a performance test on speed and hardness as a two-year-old. The races of thoroughbred horses, run as a flat, hurdle or hunting race, attract tens of thousands of visitors every year and culminate in the international race days and in particular in the annual international end of August, beginning of September, the international thoroughbred meeting of the socialist states.
