In the International Year of Women 1975, the German Federal Post Office presents four important German women writers: Gertrud Freiin von Le Fort was born on October 11, 1876 in Minden in Westphalia and died on November 1, 1971 in Oberstdorf. She designed religious and historical themes, humanistic poetry and contemporary novels. The grace of the Catholic Church returns in ever new forms in her works. Her short stories interpret the essence of the woman. The reproduced head pictures of the four women were freely translated by Prof. Aretz for the stamp designs.
