In the International Year of Women 1975, the German Federal Post Office presents four important German women writers: Annette Kolb, born on 2 February 1875 in Munich, died on 3 December 1967 in Munich, has written witty essays and novels, which are characterized by the spirit of humanist educated European world from before 1914. She also wrote biographies and translations. Her personal concern was the mediation between German and French culture. She emigrated in 1933 and returned in 1945 from the United States to Paris. The reproduced head pictures of the four women were freely translated by Prof. Aretz for the stamp designs.
