Historical Memorials in Weimar The Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications of the German Democratic Republic publishes six multi-colored special postal stamps on historical memorials in Weimar. Historical Memorials in Weimar 15-pfennig value: Wielandhaus in Oßmannstedt Northeast of Weimar lies on the Ilm the village Oßmannstedt. On the country estate built by Count Dünau, the dream of Christoph Martin Wieland (1733 - 1813) of a rural idyll, far from the Weimar courtyards and the many time-consuming obligations, became reality for a period of six years (1797 - 1803). The actual dwelling house, an elongated, two-storied building, corresponded in its comfortable spaciousness to the needs of the large family. Today it houses a school bearing Wieland's name. The Wieland memorial in two ground-floor rooms, furnished by the National Research and Memorial Sites of Classical German Literature in Weimar, is dedicated to the poet's Oßmannstedter years.
