Historical Memorials in Weimar The Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications of the German Democratic Republic publishes six multi-colored special postal stamps on historical memorials in Weimar. Historical Memorials in Weimar 10 Pfennig Value: Goethe House The baroque town house on Frauenplan was built in 1709 on behalf of Georg Caspar Helmershausen. The broad middle section of the house is flanked to the right and left by a wing extension with gate entrances, which lean back by a few degrees. The well-proportioned building dominates the small triangular square decorated with a fountain known as the Wife Plan throughout the world. Johann Wolfgang Goethe (1749 - 1832) spent almost fifty years in this house, with brief interruptions, which finally came into his possession in 1794. During this time, he made according to their own plans so many remodeling inside. The entire facility speaks of his spirit as a poet, artist, scientist, philosopher and statesman and gives millions of people an insight into his creative world. After the death of Goethe's last descendant in 1885, it was opened as the Goethe National Museum.
