Historical Coins The Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications of the German Democratic Republic issues five multicolored postage stamps with illustrations of historical coins. Special postmark from 2 September to 1 November 1986 85 Pfennig value: Taler of the city Magdeburg 1638 Magdeburg was almost completely destroyed in May 1631 by the imperial troops under Tillys guidance, a large part of the inhabitants of Magdeburg thereby found the death. Shortly thereafter, the citizens of the city began with their alderman Otto v. Guericke the reconstruction, in whose memory and honor from 1638 to 1642 ducats and thalers were coined. The coin-maker Peter Schrader, who worked under the 1622-1639 1638-born Taler shows the "talking" coat of arms of the city: the wall of a two-towered castle with an open gate and raised portcullis, above a maid with wreath in the right. The Latin inscription says. Magdeburg is restored in 1638.
