Historic Town Halls With the pictures of historic town halls, the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications of the German Democratic Republic publishes four multicolored special postage stamps. Special cancellation from February 22 to April 21, 1983 Historic Town Halls 20-pfennig value: Gera The Town Hall in Gera is one of the most important Renaissance town halls in Thuringia and Saxony. Art historically it is to be seen in connection with the Altenburger city hall. The dominant component is the mighty towering octagonal tower, in which the urban autonomy should symbolize. The building was built between 1573 and 1576, the master builder was probably Nikolaus Gormann from Weimar. The three-storey building has a careful facade design, especially the richly decorated portals as artistic works are particularly noteworthy. During the restoration in 1969, the renaissance colourfulness of the portals was found and regained.
