Special cancellation from October 8 to December 7, 1985 Berlin Bridges Since trade and traffic play a role in the history of mankind, there are bridges. So it is understandable that the oldest bridges date back to the time when the cities were founded or gained their importance. Many bridge constructions testify to the mastery of their builders and are at the same time tools of outstanding technical engineering achievements. Selected bridges are preserved as technical monuments and part of our cultural heritage. 10 Pfennig value: Gertraudenbrücke In place of the already existing in the 13th century Köllnischer bridge was built in 1738 by Favre a bascule bridge with train and counterweights. The iron sidewalks received the bridge only 40 years later. Due to the significantly increased traffic, it was expanded in 1894/95 to a width of 26.50 m. Thus, the resulting bottleneck on Mühlendamm could be eliminated and the Gertraudenstraße from Köllnisches Fischmarkt to Spittelmarkt be widened to 22 m. The bridge is of simple architectural design. Their viewing surfaces are unadorned, only the arched front is decorated with rosettes. The middle part of the railing dissolves into small arches supported by double columns. The main jewelery - to which it also owes its name - is the Rudolf Siemering bronze-cast gardening group.
