Helmut Kolle (1899-1931) failed the great success in Germany during his lifetime. The "Still Life with Guitar, Book and Vase" (1928) shows a typical ensemble of objects that are staged as heavy, bulky forms with strong, thickly applied colors in the painting. Based on an actually conventional task, he succeeds through his almost brutal imagery an independent design form. (Text: Dr. Martina Padberg, Bonn)
