Georg Schrimpf (1889-1938) once again sought an exact reproduction of the subject. But his »Still life with a cat« also shows the ruptures characterizing such depicting painting in the 20th century. The place of a self-contained composition has been replaced by a seemingly indiscriminate, additive collection of objects that seem strangely impersonal and lifeless. On the one hand unproblematic and naive in the presentation, the picture remains inaccessible and silent.
