Franz Radziwill (1895-1983) developed a very precise form of painting and a specific lighting direction that allowed him to transform everyday views from his immediate surroundings into images of a magical world. The "Water Tower in Bremen" shows a backyard view, which appears strange and threatening due to the unnatural form of lighting. The traces of decay and the sparseness of the garden give indefinite indications of an approaching calamity.
