The Swedish chemist and industrialist Alfred Nobel (1833 to 1896) built the Nobel Foundation in his will. Annually, on the anniversary of Nobel's death (December 10), the interest of around SEK 31 million will be distributed as the Nobel Prize for the five most important achievements in the field of physics, chemistry, medicine, literature and peoples' peace regardless of the nationality of the award winner. The distribution has been running the Stockholm Academy since 1901, with the exception of the Peace Prize, whose prize winner is determined by a committee elected by the Norwegian Storting. The prizes are usually handed over by the Swedish, the peace prize by the Norwegian king. The already deceased German Nobel Peace Prize Laureates are Gustav Stresemann, Ludwig Quidde and Carl von Ossietzky. The historian and politician Ludwig Quidde was born on March 23, 1858 in Bremen and died on March 5, 1941 in Geneva. He directed the publication of the Deutsche Reichstagsakten and founded the Deutsche Zeitschrift für Geschichtswissenschaft. As a leading member of the German People's Party since 1895 and federalist he was from 1907 to 1918 the Bavarian State Parliament, as a Democrat in 1919 the German National Assembly. Already before 1900 he confessed himself as a pacifist and advocated for disarmament. From 1914 to 1929 he was chairman of the German Peace Society, since 1920 also of the German Peace Cartel. In 1927 he received the Nobel Peace Prize. Since 1933 he lived in Geneva.
