The Swedish chemist and industrialist Alfred Nobel (1833 to 1896) built the Nobel Foundation in his will. Annually, on the anniversary of Nobel's death (December 10), the interest of around SEK 31 million will be distributed as the Nobel Prize for the five most important achievements in the field of physics, chemistry, medicine, literature and peoples' peace regardless of the nationality of the award winner. The distribution has been running the Stockholm Academy since 1901, with the exception of the Peace Prize, whose prize winner is determined by a committee elected by the Norwegian Storting. The prizes are usually handed over by the Swedish, the peace prize by the Norwegian king. The already deceased German Nobel Peace Prize Laureates are Gustav Stresemann, Ludwig Quidde and Carl von Ossietzky. The journalist Carl von Ossietzky was born on October 3, 1889 in Hamburg. He died on May 4, 1938 in Berlin. After the First World War, he was secretary of the German Peace Society, organized the movement Never Again War, and since 1927 published the Weltbühne. He was sentenced to 18 months in prison for alleged treason in 1931 for criticizing military spending. In 1933 he was arrested after the Reichstag fire by the Nazis and 1934 brought to a concentration camp. When he received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1935, he refused to refuse him, as they demanded freedom of pledge, and died in Nazi imprisonment.
