V. German Gymnastics and Sports Festival in Leipzig 1969 For the 5th German Gymnastics and Sports Festival in Leipzig in 1969, the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications of the German Democratic Republic publishes six multicolored special postage stamps, two of them with surcharge. The amount collected will be made available to the German Gymnastics and Sports Federation. Physical culture and sport - a basic element of socialist life From July 24 to 27, 1969, the V. German Gymnastics and Sports Festival of the German Democratic Republic takes place in Leipzig, the city of fairs, books and sports. It is after the successful performance of the East German athletes at the XIX. 1968 Olympic Games in Mexico will be another culmination of physical culture and sports in the first socialist state of German nation. The V. German gymnastics and sports festival is emphasized above all by two significant social events: first, by the decision of the Council of State of the German Democratic Republic of 20 September 1968 on the "tasks of physical culture and sport in the design of the developed system of the Socialism in the GDR "and secondly by the 20th anniversary of the first workers and peasants state on German soil. Thus, at the 5th German Gymnastics and Sports Festival, the first assessment of the realization of the Council of State's decision is drawn, especially in view of the new goal: "Everybody at every location several times a week several times a sport". At the same time, as part of the celebration of the 20th anniversary of the GDR, it will be the contribution of gymnasts and athletes, who would like to pay some thanks for the generous support of the working-class party and the government. In total, around 80,000 gymnasts and athletes of all ages will take part in the 5th German Gymnastics and Sports Festival, which will focus on a series of major events. Another major event is the flag consecration - motif of the 30 Pfennig brand - on the evening of July 25 on the market in front of the historic backdrop of the Old Town Hall. In the 20th year of the German Democratic Republic, the 5th German Gymnastics and Sports Festival will once again demonstrate the high level of socialist physical culture in our country, as the gymnastics and sports festivals of the years 1954, 1956, 1959 and 1963 have already demonstrated The President of FIFA, Sir Stanley Rous, after attending the IVth German Gymnastics and Sports Festival in 1963, said: "This is the greatest manifestation of the sport I have ever experienced. I had the opportunity to see sports festivals in many countries around the world. But that is clear to me: Leipzig surpasses everything that I have experienced so far. Only one word is able to express what I feel: Fantastic! By that I mean both the organization, which is above all praise, and the ideas for the individual performances, which were so varied, as well as the execution, which in its exactness is hard to beat.
