Denkmalpflege-ICOMOS On the occasion of the General Assembly of the International Society for the Preservation of Monuments in the GDR, the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications of the German Democratic Republic issues four multicolored special postage stamps. Special cancellation from April 24 to June 23, 1984 Historic Preservation 10 Pfennig value: Town Hall in Rostock Like the city halls in Lübeck and Stralsund, the Rostocker is also a group building. It consists of three gabled houses, which are combined by an ornamental façade wall to the market. The older part of the town hall is formed by the two northern houses from 1270-1290. From this construction period two spitzbogige portals are still preserved with richly structured garments. In 1315, the third gable house was added to the south. The uniform façade was designed in several construction periods from the middle of the 14th to the end of the 15th century. The still visible upper part of the medieval façade is divided by twelve large apertures, each arched area is pierced by a circular opening. Above it is a horizontal cornice made of ornamental tracery and seven pointed turrets. The model for this is the market front of the city hall Lübeck. In 1727, Zacharias Voigt and Joseph Petrini erected a multi-storey baroque porch in front of the medieval facade. He leaves only the upper part of the old display wall free. A laurel-like porch, which was already present in the late Gothic period, was included in the baroque porch. Inside is the two-storey council chamber with a stucco ceiling from 1735. In the years 1974-1977 extensive restoration work took place.
