Austria's first stamps: On June 1, 1850 Austria issued the first stamps. Actually, it was a stamp series. The five individual stamps of the series show the Austrian coat of arms and had different Kreuzer value: 1, 2, 3, 6 and 9. To better recognize the different values, the brands had different colors. They were valid throughout the empire. The coat of arms edition was first printed in 1850 on handmade, rough and uneven-appearing paper, with bow watermark and 1854 also on machine-made, smooth paper without watermarks. The stamps were unperforated, they were cut out with scissors. There is also an unissued and mostly destroyed 12 Kreuzer coat of arms stamp in this series, this mark achieves prices over 10.000 euro
