An Atlantic flight is a matter of course today. Among the pioneers who made this possible were the Germans Hermann Köhl, Ehrenfried Günther Freiherr von Hünefeld and the Irishman James C. Fitzmaurice. They independently worked on a nonstop flight from Europe to America. Professor Hugo Junkers, who built the selected Junkers W33 aircraft, brought the two Germans together. Together they flew with the "Bremen" on 26 March 1928 from Berlin Tempelhof to Baldonnel in Ireland. From there they started together with the Irishman Fitzmaurice on April 12, 1928 and landed after 36.5 hours on the Canadian island of Greenly Iceland near Newfoundland.
