16 national football teams will fight for the coveted title of European Champion and the valuable UEFA Cup at UEFA EURO 2008 ™. The kick-off will take place on June 7, 2008, and the highly anticipated finale will be held on June 29, 2008 at the Ernst Happel Stadium in Vienna. Österreichische Post AG is accompanying this major sporting event as a National Sponsor - the publication of thematic stamps is one of several activities in this context. One of the highlights of these stamp editions are the two special stamps "Participating countries I" and "Participating countries II"; each of the teams that qualified for the final round is symbolized on eight brand motifs each. On Block I these are the teams from Italy, Spain, Croatia and Austria, from Sweden, Portugal, the Czech Republic and from Greece, the defending champion. The artistic realization of the theme has succeeded in both aesthetic and authentic ways. No doubt about it: The painting of the faces with the colors of the respective national flags has become in recent years a popular and often observed "ritual" of die-hard fans; It reflects the fiery patriotism that forms the necessary backdrop for exciting football matches. The uniformity of the portrayed portrayals expresses the interconnectedness of Europe, however divergent; a fact that should perhaps be remembered in sports competitions. In short, the modern and fast-paced motifs interpret pride and fairness in a very communicative way. The different nominal values of the individual stamps allow for a manifold, so to speak "peoples connecting" compilation for the respective required franking. Perfect for the fan mail in the world!
