The Tiroler Schützenwesen finds its roots in a defensive and defensive order, which was laid down in writing in 1511 in the "Landlibell" - a booklet with eight parchment leaflets, bearing the seal of Emperor Maximilian I. The Landlibell was co-designed by the state states and determined that in case of danger 5,000 - 20,000 men armed should pull to the threatened national borders, in order to protect the homeland. The principles of the Tyrolean shooters agree beyond the protection of the home almost literally with the preamble to the Tyrolean state order. According to the principles anchored there, the shooters endeavor to participate in the formation of opinion and will in "Land in the Mountains" across all party lines. There are currently over 230 rifle companies in the province of Tyrol with 13,000 active shooters.
